Drop and Kick: Jashin-chan Dropkick

Hi hi, apparently I am on lockdown so I have time to finish shows and also write about them, for a month, tentatively.

I finished both seasons for this one. I rushed through season 1 before season 2 aired and tada, they dropped the entire 2nd season. So I decided to write this one early so I can relieve some load from my seasonal post.

First season lasts for 11 episodes with 1 OVA and the 2nd only had 11.

Story

Okay, I am actually kind of frustrated that I missed this show.

The first season intro lacked quite a bit of context, and the context came so late, like the 2nd season. When I watched the 2nd season, I thought I watched the sequence wrong. Let’s start off with S1 first.

I was deadly hilarious. The amount of parody, comedy, is probably one of the best. I remembered 2018 was a pretty bland year, this one would probably change my mood for that year.

The season was filled with parodies, funny comedies with the parodies and they made sense. I loved it. There is no buildup, no climax or much character development. The brutality as well was pretty funny to watch.

Then season 2 came, and it really failed. The parodies got toned down, the brutality gets scaled down. They went to old school comedy which I think really failed. It didn’t really meet my expectations. I thought they are going to ramp up the “abuse”. I don’t know is it because of parodies making creators disgruntled or some new airing guideline to reduce the gore in a show that is PG.

Episode 11 can be skipped since its just recycled content.

Season 2 had its moments, so its not all doom and gloom.

Overall, I would personally rewatch season 1 and just skip season 2 entirely.

Animations

Nomad is in-charge here. Its a name that I have never seen for awhile.

Character designs are great, parodies are surprisingly accurate, colors are vivid and everything looks sharp. I love it. The “gore” as well were a nice touch. Both seasons looked pretty much the same.

I don’t think I need to say much here.

Music

This is rather polarizing.

The first season OP, sung by the show’s VAs, were solid. ED was nice as well.

As for season 2, halca is singing the OP, ZAMB for the ED. The OP was nice, but the animations sometimes just doesn’t fit the mood.

BGMs were pretty nice for both seasons.

But all the songs are nice.

Voice Casts

Its a solid cast list, despite the rather rookie looking list.

Suzuki Aina, Omori Nichika, Kubota Miyu, Kozakai Yurie, Omigawa Chiaki, Sasaki Rico, Iida Riho, Hara Natsuko, Aranami Kazusa, Terada Miko, M.A.O, Yamashita Nanami, Tanaka MInami, Hanai Miharu.

I really loved Nichika’s voice, especially after watching Rikei ga Koi where she pull off a similar style. The thing is, she can make her monotonous voice acting sound pretty soothing to hear. She is pretty versatile. Rokujouma was her debut and she had left me a pretty everlasting positive impression. I really love her voice.

Scores: S1 | S2
Story: 9/10 | 8/10
Art: 9/10
Music: 8.5/10 | 8/10
VAs: 9/10

Highly recommended for season 1. But I don’t know about season 2. If you are up for it, be my guest.

That’s all for me today. I will be writing another in a few days, probably after finishing the April Liar show.

I will see you guys then!
