I Picked Up More Shows Again: Mid-Season Impressions

Hi, back for more anime blogging stuff.

So finally it’s mid-season, it has been a long season. Numerous delays, shows getting crapped on due to its content. What a nice start to 2020.

So without any further ado, let’s just get this show on the road.

Darwin’s Game

So far this show has been meeting my expectations, but I feel that this current Shibuya arc is stretched way too long and slow. A lot of the condensation can be done with the plot.

Now my biggest wish for this show is to end this slowly mundane arc and move on to more relentless enemies. But besides that, this show is pretty nice to watch, not gonna drop. The ED is pretty lit though.

Hatena☆Illusion

This show has been abysmal. The story is actually great, but the animations really doesn’t hold up. The earliest indication is back before the show started, this show didn’t get any anime footage in its trailer. I should have seen this coming.

The story has been doing decent so far. I am really contemplating about dropping the show. I really wish studios can just be honest about not being able to meet expectations due to the lacking of quality and postpone the airing even if it was going to be last minute.

This show has been delayed TWICE, IN A MONTH. I personally find this unacceptable.

Heya Camp△

No brainer. I enjoyed the show since the beginning. But the fact that season 2 is so far away, I’m going to put pretty high expectations on this show next year.

Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei

So far this show has been pretty decent. I really like their episodic formats.

The characters has charisma. I don’t really have much to say, but the fact that this show is pretty underrated. I didn’t see much people talking about this show and it’s sad.

ID: INVADED

This show has been pretty decent. The show has been trying to make some decent mystery, but I feel like it is getting extremely stale.

The animations are great, the OP and ED are pretty nice as well. But judging how far I am into the show, and still hugging a small amount of hope, I won’t drop it.

Infinite Dendrogram

I was initially a little bit skeptical about what I picked up, but it got pretty nice.

The show’s animation since the last episode started to show some funkiness, and they immediately delays the show INDEFINITELY due to the coronavirus. I wish more studios do that. They took 6 episodes to show some animation weirdness.

Not dropping, Ono Yuko’s role too darn cute.

Isekai Quartet 2

I feel ripped off. Shield Hero finally joins the cast but gets sidelined immediately after episode 1.

But not dropping, still funny.

Ishuzoku Reviewers

Good meme.

I really love this show, not just for the fanservice and the ballsy nature of the plot, but the fact that now Crim is addicted to sex.

Jokes aside, this show has been shunned by Funi and 2 Japanese TV stations, so kinda proves that this show cannot be shown in front of your kids or parents.

But whatever, enjoying the show to bits.

Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu.

This girl is going to get a big nerf next patch.

This is probably one of the very little shows that has been consistent in both story and animations. I really liked Silver Link’s implementation of 3DCGI on massive monsters and fast moving combat as a way to replace traditional keyframes.

The whole presentation looked smoother. The major problem about 3DCGI is how the character design would drastically change during the sequence, but they managed to fix that.

The music is probably its biggest weakness, but I think I can just ignore that. Story has been pretty enjoyable, and I hope Minato Mirai learns from Onuma Shin.

Not dropping. Hondo Kaede’s voice too cute.

Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun

Another show that has been extremely consistent.

The artwork still looks extremely refreshing as ever, the story still as goofy as the beginning. I don’t think there is ever a need to complain.

If you are not enjoying the show, I have no words. This is a gem in this rough season.

Ogata Megumi never disappoints.

Koisuru Asteroid

This show has been pretty consistent as well. The story is nothing to really note about.

It’s a show where you either sit down and enjoy or you just don’t watch at all since there is nothing going on.

Not dropping. We are just starting to get the yuri vibes in the show.

Kyokou Suiri

I was pretty skeptical of this show as well. The story has been interesting for awhile now, but I find the pacing to be really really slow.

I wish this show could accelerate, its not slow and mundane, but I really don’t like how much of a roundabout this show has been on trying to solve just 1 ghostbusting mystery.

Not dropping this one, this show has been constantly like “Yeah we are trying to show you something, but let me build up first.” But yeah, it has been building up for over 6 episodes at this point and we are only this close to solving the mystery.

Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden

So far so… okay?

Its not all that great but it’s not that bad either. This show has been hard to judge and also to not compare with the original series.

The story is a little bit all over the place and pretty forgettable. I also think that Shaft didn’t bring out all the eyecandy as well. So it falls short in every regard, this show really felt very insincere and extremely under dedicated.

It’s hard to really replicate the achievement they made with the OG series, but I feel like this show isn’t really trying at all.

I’m going to finish this one to see if they will pull off a good ending.

Murenase! Seton Gakuen

This show has brought decent amount of comedy with some slight discomfort. But anyhow, I enjoyed the show for what it is.

Not dropping, can’t wait for more animals to pop up.

Nekopara

I really enjoyed the new story. It’s much better than adapting all the volumes of the VNs.

The voice acting gripes I had previously were all magically gone. I guess it takes time for them to sink into their roles, or maybe I just needed time to sink in with their voice acting.

But anyhow, not dropping, for obvious reasons.

Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumeishitemita.

I picked this up right after my 3rd impression post, and why did I missed this one out.

So far the comedy is through the roof, but it does get a little frustrating at times.

But yeah, I’m loving the cast, especially Omori Nichika’s role. But yeah, I can’t drop this show. It’s too great.

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T

And another show affected by the coronavirus, indefinite postponement.

I really like how the plot manipulates my feelings so far, it’s a huge step up from the mundane Index III we have to endure earlier. They are taking their sweet time playing the arc out and I like it.

I can’t wait for more, hopefully the delay won’t be too long.

That’s it on my mid-season. But the post isn’t ending here, I do wanna talk about…

How Does The Coronavirus Affect Anime Productions?

Well, this is a very touchy topic at the moment still as cases are still climbing, especially South Korea right now with doubling their patient count in a matter of a night.

But with Infinite Dendrogram, Railgun T affect by delays due to the outbreak, what does this mean?

The Japanese animation as a whole has started to outsource their production overseas as they couldn’t keep up with demand and they are short of animators, either due to animators quitting, lacking of new hires or just straight up underpaying them. But that is a topic for another day.

This is not a new thing that Japanese anime studios have been outsourcing projects.

They have been outsourcing mainly to China and Vietnam for quite awhile now. From my memory, probably since 2016, the period when animators are starting to voice out their grievances about working in the animation industry.

But now that the coronavirus floating around, animations cannot just simply “work from home” so offices are closed and works are of course delayed.

But this also showed that how the two shows are rushed till the last minute. Show delays are getting more and more frequent. What I really fear is that the delays will snowball and affect other anime airing dates in the next season.

But anyhow, all we can do is wait for this outbreak to blow over.

And this is the end of my mid-season impressions.

I will be writing another post in the coming days, some gaming, some anime. We’ll see. I am currently marathoning the Director’s Cut of Re:Zero and also rewatching some old shows. I do intend to write some rewatch reviews and how they reflect on us in 2020.

But yeah, my backlogs are slowly piling up with no end in sight so I guess you guys will definitely get more blog posts in the foreseeable future.

I will see how things goes and write them out.

Any questions or things you wanna say, just comment below.

I will see you guys then!
