Hi hi, I’m back for another review.
Today we will talk about my most favourite game for a long time.
This movie basically adapts the first game but with some slightly changes with the plot compared to the game.
The movie is 91min long.
The story is pretty much an extremely condensed, without much of the dramatic fight scenes plot. Nothing much that is really breathtaking, or gives me a lot of attention.
The pacing is pretty damn fast, like in a blink of an eye I’m already on my way to the 2nd arc already. Even after playing the game and remembering the plot, I still feel lost, exacerbated by the slight change of main plot.
The character development is extremely shallow with the speedy plot and pace. The side characters didn’t get much focus, especially when Bayonetta didn’t get much of the attention, despite her being the main character. I wish they can just extend the movie by 30mins just to expand a little more on the character developments and relationships.
The buildup feels extremely weak too. Sometimes I think there isn’t much buildup at all. The climax feels rather weak due to that. I really think this show is underdelivering A LOT, compared to the game.
The ending was fine, just because I can finally finish the movie. The movie isn’t THAT bad, but the really shallow plot made my viewing experience kind of frustrating. Personally, didn’t really love the movie, hate is a strong word so I will pick dislike.
Gonzo is in-charge here. It looks decent, for a Gonzo production show.
Character designs look pretty much faithful to the game, the colors are pretty vivid. But it lacks that darkness tone and vibe that the game had. The basic combat scenes looks okay, but Bayonetta’s finisher feels rather weird.
I wish Madhouse would adapt this game instead, as it will suit their style and also this is a genre that Madhouse typically adapts. If enough budget and attention, they will make this movie look pretty amazing.
Nothing much to write about here. The music are fine, nothing really amazing or what.
The cast is pretty much retained.
Nothing much to really comment. Everyone sound how they were supposed to like in the game, which is pretty great already.
But one thing to really say is that, Tanaka Atsuko is probably the only person that can voice as Bayonetta.
If you played the game, I don’t think there is a point in watching the movie. Unless you don’t want to play the game but is intrigued in the franchise, then maybe you can really watch it.
But if they intend to make another film to adapt the 2nd game, I would be down for that, but as long as Gonzo isn’t making it.
My hate for Gonzo continues…
That’s all for me today, next post will be out by Sunday, for the 3rd round of Summer 2019 impressions.
I will see you guys then!
