Summer 2019: First Round

Hi hi, I know this post came a little late, life is like a non-stop train and I couldn’t catch a break. But, yeap, now that I finally have a little bit of break, time to write this one down before I run out of time again.

Now that we are here, time to finish up on this post, I have 21 shows to cover here.

Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.

Sexual Education, but by awkward girls that don’t know how the world works.

Okada Mari’s original work and I feel the vibe already. Not the emotional tearjerker she always have been pulling out of her strings, but a sense of seriousness yet a pinch of slice-of-life to even things out.

The first episode for me was kind of awkward to watch, but when the 2nd episode aired, things started to be oddly relatable to me for some reason.

It’s a pretty slow show, but I somehow manages to be able to focus with my pretty darn short attention span. I’m not totally in love with the show, but I don’t hate it at all either. I doubt I will drop this show, but things are looking pretty bright for the show.

I’m not betting completely on Okada Mari, but I think I will genuinely love the show.

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou

So far first episode looks rather promising, but pacing is a bit damn rushed.

The context is seriously lacking, the world building is just so damn packed. I can understand that the show wants to pick up the pace to jump right into the action with the pretty exciting revenge plot, but I wish they could play the Tensei Slime card and spend like 1-2 episode on context and world building.

I am all-in with the revenge plot so I won’t be dropping this one.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?

This one is pretty solid so far. Putting the fanservice aside, the gym sessions can be rather educational.

Not dropping, the girls are cute, the voices are cute, the muscle boy mascot is a focking laughing stock. I can’t drop it. It’s my stress reliever and also a form of motivationn for exercising.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II

I really dislike the first season, so I am walking into this season with my expectations in check.

But so far the first episode looks rather decent, I might give this show a second chance.

Who knows what’s next? I might pull off a plot twist and drop this.

Enen no Shouboutai

So… this is Boku no Hero Academia with an approachable Bakugo? With a lot of pyrotechnics?

2 episodes in and I think this one is going to be a slow one. The setting seems a bit dark, people just spontaneously combust and die. I personally find this setting to be rather dark and painful for a pretty lighthearted concept.

This one looks rather okay, since it will be 24eps, so I will take my time and indulge.

Granbelm

This show so far feels kind of a mixture of Release The Spyce, Endro and Yuuki Yuuna.

With the rather action-packed episode, episode 2 went down to a chill mode. It’s going to be hard to put judgement on this show since it is an original project.

But it does look pretty promising.

Isekai Cheat Magician

Well, with Myth and Roid singing the OP, I think that’s a good enough reason for me to keep going.

Yeap, first episode is pretty generic for the most part and this has got to be one of the most awkward pair of childhood friends I have ever seen so far.

So far this show isn’t showing much yet in it’s first episode. This is a bad move as we have 6-7 isekai shows this season ALONE and they are not doing much to attract my attention.

I am going to push my expectations down a little bit.

Joshikousei no Mudazukai

What can I say about this one? Pretty much Nichijou but 2019.

This show is hitting all the right notes for my kind of comedy and I really like how things goes so far with this show.

The retard, the overreacting and the robot. The ultimate trio for my brain degeneration.

I really love this show, I cannot drop this. The perfect matching, the perfect voice cast, the perfect comedy.

Kanata no Astra

I don’t know about this show. Everyone I know seems to like it and I’m here feeling like something is honestly lacking.

This show finally adopts the 2 black bars full time, thank god, finally lesser distractions for me.

The show’s comedy feels like a forced injection of a drug, there is no buildup to them. People do like them, but the sudden comedy for me feels forced, and the change of mood is so drastic that I find it hard to catch up.

I wish they can tone down with the emotion roller coaster and be more like a survival show. I appreciate the comedy that helps change the mood sometimes, but sometimes it feels unnecessary.

I’m going to be patient with this show, since I think this show won’t be a 1cour, and MIGHT possibly adapt the entire manga since the manga already ended back in 2017.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2

So far so good, nothing to really write home about, everything going as planned.

Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e

The first episode is pretty darn good, I have to say. But 3 episodes in, I am thirsty for more action. Because the first episode delivered SOOO much that the newer episodes starting to look rather stale. EP 2 and 3 has been rather underperforming for me.

But I highly doubt that I will drop this one, I have quite a bit of confidence in this show. I don’t think this show will even have a good climax with the current pacing they are going, but we’ll see. MAPPA been pretty good recently.

Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka?

This show is aiming at all the niche kinks, and I like it.

The random M senpai moment during the first scene of episode 2 gets me all turned on.

I don’t think I will drop this. Character designs looked rather solid, I really love it. Story is a little bit all over the place here, and I don’t really see an endgoal and purpose of the show.

The voice cast looks pretty damn nice too.

I don’t think I will drop this, I want to see how this show will develop.

Kochoki: Wakaki Nobunaga

As a history student, I am obliged to watch this show. And also an original historic anime from Deen? I really have to give this a try.

2 episodes in and I personally think this show is shaping up to be a pretty solid one. My last history show was either Samurai Deeper Kyo or Shonen Onmyoji, both made by Deen. Studio Deen tends to make pretty great history shows so I will sit this one to the end.

As for the animation quality, its pretty okay, colors are vivid, character designs are looking great.

The cast is also damn nice. Hanamori Yumiri as Kichou couldn’t be any perfect. I actually recommend people who have been dying for an historic anime. That subtle blend of modern vibe with the historic setting looks pretty nice.

Machikado Mazoku

I will love this show to bits.

The setting is nice, the family is dumb. The whole premise looks like a recipe for an epic adventure.

The cast is good, the character designs are adorable. I have no reason to drop this shit.

Maou-sama, Retry!

This show is rather interesting, at least so far.

Besides the voice gripe I mentioned on my previous post, the show has been pretty much flatlining for me. It’s like the show’s blonde Rem is carrying the show.

I don’t know. I might drop this one, if they don’t improve.

Naka no Hito Genome [Jikkyouchuu]

This show does look pretty promising. I may be a big fan of Onuma Shin’s shows, but this one is looking like it has a pretty slow buildup and pacing despite the pretty fast world building.

The cast looks great, Nazuka Kaori’s character really gets to me so far.

I don’t think I will drop this. The show didn’t really have much to hate for me so far, just that awkward pacing.

Sounan desu ka?

Another show that I love this season. Megane girl is definitely best girl for me.

I don’t know if I got used to it or what, the awkward part-by-part cut on episode 2 looks way smoother than episode 1. I think the part cut awkwardness is definitely fixed, I can sense a certain story flow now.

Besides that, I really love this show. No reason to drop, feels like a crime to drop.

Tejina Senpai

Hondo Kaede is really nailing this role so damn nicely.

The comedy, the blatant fanservice, the “magic”, everything is just perfect for me.

Nothing to really say, beside highly recommend this show, such a pity its only 12 mins.

A definite blasphemy for dropping so nope.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator

This show definitely has best OP this season for me, Myth and Roid can take 2nd place.

So we are traveling back in time right after Accelerator’s near death injury, which is great, it expands that universe massively now.

First episode just jumps right into the action, since most people who watches this most probably watches Railgun and Index already.

Animation quality looks amazing, probably even up a notch from Index III, I think this might be the biggest reason why OPM S2 looked kind of mediocre. J.C.Staff tend to be biased with their budget and work quality sometimes.

I like this show, me no drop, Index can kindly take 3rd place in the Academy City universe.

Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki desu ka?

Oh boy, am I in love with this show. May I join the “I Want To Change My Mother Club”?

Kayano Ai is pulling off the mother role pretty nicely so far. I was guilty for doubting her, you guys can pull me into the gulags for that.

But yeah, with the premise and setting alone, is enough for me to keep this show going, I don’t care if the story goes to shit.

I am going to be very biased on this one, I am hyping this show since my trip to Hong Kong last year.

Uchi no Ko no Tame Naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru Kamo Shirenai.

I nearly called the FBI on this one.

This show really made me wanna adopt a kid like Latina, be a single parent and all.

But yeah, the story is lighthearted and pretty chill, so this will be other stress reliever this season. Character designs are great, Latina’s voice puts me to sleep like a baby. I love nearly everything about the show.

No reason to drop this, I want nice things.

And yeap, that wrapped up my 21 show grind this season so far. I am not confident that I will be dropping any shows, but we’ll see, I personally think 21 shows is a little bit too much for me, so I will *try* to reduce that next season. But with so many sequels next season, I don’t know about that anymore.

if you managed to read all the way down to this part, that’s great, you reached the end. I will try to push this out sooner, I initially planned to finish this post on Sunday, but real life gave me zero options but to push it back till today.

My schedule this season is great, I have nothing to watch on Saturday night, so that means I can write the post on Sunday and hopefully get it done by the end of the day.

That’s it for me today, I will see you guys soon!
