Summer 2019: Plan To Watch

Hello, good day. Yes very good day. Because the season already started and I haven’t even written any plan to watch yet.

This season is rather hard to pick for me, but after spending my Friday researching, watching PVs and reading synopses, I eventually picked up 18 shows without knowing , compared to only 13 on my previous season.

Well, Summer tends to be the season which anticipated sequels and promising shows air. This is probably the first time in quite a few years where I kind of having difficulties picking up show. Before looking at the Summer list, I only picked up 7 or 8… but now 18, I don’t know if I can actually keep up.

This season started way sooner than I anticipated, a lot of the shows have started when Spring haven’t even ended yet. I blame One Punch Man for snowballing my posting backlogs and schedules.

Since some shows has already aired their first episodes at the point of this writing, I will write my first thoughts in on shows that I already watched.

So, without further ado, time to get the list rolling, since this will be a rather long post. I will try to make this post as short as I can.

Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka II

I have been a vocal hater for this show, Sword Oratoria was probably the only show in the franchise that I find to be rather acceptable.

But for the sake of continuity, I will pick this one up. But if the show is still pretty darn crappy like the first season, I will drop it. Dropping it isn’t a bad idea since I already have a lot of shows in my portfolio.

Isekai Cheat Magician

The title is interesting enough to pull me in.

The synopsis looks like a generic setting and a trying-no-to-be-generic execution.

PV looks rather okay, but I will pin my hopes a little lower on this one. Potential drop probably if the show doesn’t deliver.

Naka no Hito Genome [Jikkyouchuu]

Looks like a spin-off of Kakegurui, but not as dark.

This one will look rather less disappointing. Pinning my hopes a little higher here.

Maou-sama, Retry!

Watched the first episode for this one. And yeap, blonde Rem is here.

The first episode showed a lot of potential already. I just find Tsuda Kenjiro’s voice is a little too coarse and too bassy for Blonde Rem. The contrast is too wide for me to take the show seriously. He is known for his deep voice but I think is overdoing it.

Not kidding, his voice actually runs my subwoofer really hard, surprising since airing shows audio quality isn’t known to have a lot of dynamic range, compared to BDs.

But well, not dropping the show if they can keep up with the story flow or trying anything too drastic.

Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator

One of my highly anticipated spin-offs of 2019. And this pretty much confirms that Railgun 3 will come next season. This show is only 1 cour, unlike the other series that runs 2 cours per season.

But yeah, nothing needed to be said here. I have always been rather curious with Accelerator’s backstory and logic, so this show will probably not disappoint.

Tsuujou Kougeki ga Zentai Kougeki de Ni-kai Kougeki no Okaasan wa Suki desu ka?

This show is either MILF bait or incest bait. This is my 3rd J.C.Staff show for the season and I really am kind of worried about J.C.Staff’s pacing on pumping out 3-4 shows per season. Honestly, I thought this show was made by A-1 as it is kind of what A-1 likes to adapt. But all of their resources went to making Sword Art Online so I don’t think they have the capacity anymore.

This show has been on my list since last year when it got announced. Long title but an interesting one. The cast list is also another reason why I decided to pick this up.

Nothing need to be said here, I’m into this kind of weird shit so I’m picking this up.

Tejina Senpai

This show will probably be my favourite this season. Hondo Kaede’s voice here really gets me good.

The comedy is there, and it’s my kind of comedy. A bunch of retarded stuff with a hint of unintentionally sexual feel. I don’t think I will drop this one, I need some painkillers every now and then.

And yes, I see this girl as Hotaru’s less eccentric cousin.

Joshikousei no Mudazukai

So basically this show is Nichijou, but female high school. I will enjoy this.

I already watched the first episode and this show has shown a lot of promise in terms of the comedy this show is going to deliver.

I WILL LOVE THIS. A LOT. The cast list is great, the gags are great, so little chill, so many savagery.

Kochoki: Wakaki Nobunaga

I honestly have no idea why I picked this one up.

But I guess I love history so that will be one of my reasons. Studio Deen is making the show so this will be interesting.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san 2

Anticipated sequel, no questions asked, picked it up in a heartbeat.

Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?

I really love this for some reason. Totally not the muscle fetish or the tanned gyaru. But their trainer is some fucking muscle nut.

At first I thought the main girl is voiced by Sakura Ayane, but she’s voiced by a newbie, with a rather pecular name, Fairouz Ai.

I really will love this show. No dropping for me.

Machikado Mazoku

And this is my 4th J.C.Staff show.

This one “looks” like Madoka, but I highly doubt so. But the cast list looks promising and the premise do show some potential, so I’m going to try this one out.

Kanata no Astra

The first episode already threw in a 45min long one and I think it really shows a lot of the premise.

First impressions from me is that the girl needs to go back to grade school and brush up her Japanese.

Jokes aside, this looks like a pretty serious show, but it has its comedic moments.

But one gripe about the comedy is that it comes too sudden and a little bit too forceful. I like the jokes, but the timing is really off and feels very unsuitable with the atmosphere.

Another thing about the show keeps switching from full screen to top-bottom black bars to simulate cinema effect. I wish they could just decide what format they are going for and stop switching. It is pretty distracting to me, even on my 24″ monitor, imagine if I were to watch this with my 65″ TV.

But yeah, those flaws aside, this show does have potential, cast looks pretty damn solid too.

Katsute Kami Datta Kemono-tachi e

This show might be AOTS here. They threw everything onto the table in just one episode.

This got to be the best first episode I have ever watched in a long time. MAPPA is really clutching it here.

If they keep this up, this show might be my pick for 2019 even. Can’t wait for more on this one.

Uchi no Ko no Tame Naraba, Ore wa Moshikashitara Maou mo Taoseru Kamo Shirenai.

Another one of those parenting shows.

This one looks pretty sweet. I’m not expecting anything too sketchy. The cast looks pretty darn nice too.

This might be chill show for this season.

Kawaikereba Hentai demo Suki ni Natte Kuremasu ka?

And of course for me, I need an ecchi show for the season, and looks like I found it.

Sounan desu ka?

So… Anime version of Lost.

The show looks promising, the cast looks pretty nicely gathered. But one gripe is the format.

I find that the part-by-part format to be rather disruptive. Sometimes the parts lack the flow of continuity. This show is talking about a slightly serious topic about being stranded on an island, but the part-by-part format feels like it’s cutting the flow. I wish they could just keep the show going instead of separating everything.

Besides that, the show looks promising, character designs looks great, I think I will take the megane girl out anytime.

Granbelm

So basically this is Midget Magical Gundam.

Nexus’s 2nd full length anime and they are throwing in almost everything in terms of animation quality.

This show is an original anime so I am not expecting a lot, but after watching the first episode, this show can potentially replace Release the Spyce.

But I am not going to expect a lot from the show, especially from a studio I am not particularly familiar with in terms of original projects. The cast looks pretty darn awesome though.

So yeap, that’s it for my Summer season. It looks extremely long, it is going to be a hectic season for me, especially the weekly impressions and of course the wrapup. I might not be able to push out posts on time, since I’m already struggling with writing 13 shows for the previous season.

Tomorrow will be the wrapup of Spring post, it will come pretty late so don’t expect the post to come as early as this one.

So I will see you guys then!
