Hello, 2nd post of the day.
So I wrote about manga review last week, so you guys can cross refer. I will commence the serious wall text of reviews. The anime only aired for 12 eps.
The story went back to adapting from the beginning of the manga, which is great. I think Kouji Seo knew how he screwed up his Kimi no Iru Machi adaptation.
Story pacing is pretty slow for a 12 ep. Storyline stays pretty loyal to the manga for about 3/4 of the anime. I put my expectations rather high because Kusakawa Keizo was directing, I put my hopes high because he might be able to fix a rather botched source material.
The main controversy around the show is that they changed Fuuka’s traffic accident, making her survive for the rest of the show.
It’s a bold move, I admire the bold move in the plot twist, but I find it very… forced. It’s like telling it’s readers of the manga: “You hate how Fuuka died? I will give you this then.” with a very rude tone. Ending was an original ending, nothing significant. Overal, it’s a great experience, that Seo Kouji gets a great adaptation, but it only lasted for the first half.
Animations by Diomedea. Character designs are great, animations were bright, showing the fun and perky side of the anime. The rendering of the other elements were pretty great too. I have to love everything it looks, its a move away from the monotonous and serious animations from Kimi no Iru Machi. I love everything art related to the show.
Music is a great, especially when this anime focuses quite a lot on the music elements. OP was great, ED was great. Insert songs were stunning too.
The voice actors were pretty great. Kobayashi Yusuke, Lynn, Hayami Saori, Saito Soma, Okitsu Kazuyuki, Komatsu Mikako, Takahashi Mikako, Onishi Saori, Hondo Kaede, Mitsuhashi Kanako, Nakamura Daisuke, Owada Hitomi, Hikasa Yoko, Hirakawa Daisuke, Ono Daisuke, Numakura Manami, Nakamura Yuichi, Nakahara Mai, Takumi Yasuaki.
I initially didn’t approve of Lynn voicing Fuuka. Her voice does sound a tad too rough, Fuuka does has some sense of feminism and Lynn’s voice lacks it. But what she makes up for is her singing vocals. The power she has in her voice is comparable to Numakura Manami’s. So she passed.
Kobayashi Yusuke probably got hired because of his rising popularity since Re:Zero, but he sounds great so he has shown his ability.
Hayami Saori sounded great in her role, but exposure was rather lacking. Same goes to Manami, when she’s the real MVP of the show. Loved her voice.
Recommended? Not really, but it can be great time waster. Those who love the manga can stay with the manga, unless the anime keeps poking your interest.
Tomorrow I will talk about how I first found Seo’s works and how I fell in love with it.
