High School drama in Elementary School: 12Sai

I was supposed to write this a long time ago, but time constraints and work made me forgotten about it.

Manga origin, still ongoing. Anime lasted for 2 seasons of 12 eps, so 24eps… This is the TV ver, I haven’t finish the OVA yet and still ongoing.

This story is pretty damn cheesy. It showcases high school level romance drama at an elementary school. This show definitely overly mature for its setting, but because of that, the show became extremely cheesy. Its one of the most cheesy shoujo shows I watched. The romance is pretty sweet at times but the female antagonist seems to be a bit overly mature and seems to be like a homewrecker, a vixen. The story escalates pretty quickly within 3 eps but after that, the pacing starts to go slow after that, but most eps ends with a sweet note. The slow pacing keeps dragging the story thruout both the 1st season and 2nd season. Ending felt like an ok wrap up, but failed to use it’s pretty advantaged setting into good use and make a very sweet or heartwarming ending.

Animations by OLM. Character designs are good, but quality feels like Utawarerumono, which is considered below average on current standards. It’s feels pretty upscaled and colors are bland. It’s not so bad, since the show don’t really need good levels of quality.

Music is erm… pretty… ok? It takes time to love the OP and ED but once you love it, it feels… normal. BGMs are pretty ok.

VAs is starting to feel pretty generic. Kakuma Ai, Saito Soma, Kimura Juri, Horie Shun, Makiguchi Mayuki, Hara Sayuri, Kakihara Tetsuya, Murata Taishi, Tachibana Shinnosuke. I’m starting to get sick of hearing Kakuma Ai’s cute voice, she voiced with that same exact voice for over 2 years, I think it’s time to stop.

Story: 7/10 (S1), 7.5/10 (S2)

Art: 8/10

Music: 7/10 (S1), 7.5/10 (S2)

VAs: 7/10

This show may have elementary students, but they are not lolis, they don’t look like one. Recommendation? Maybe… if you like cheese carry on.
