A world with no worries but fun battles: Dog Days

Good evening. Type type type…

Original material. Ran for a long 3 seasons of 13eps for S1 and S2 and 12 eps for S3. They made me wait for 3 years just for S3.

Storyline for S1 gave me a pretty deep impression of the show. It made the show had both serious and fun tones going on at the same time. Wars that are harmless, if our world had such a system… S1’s beginning was excellent, it gave a deep impact and the show progresses well. But things starts to go downhill mid season, and escalates again at the second half of the season. The final battle was pretty awesome, and eventually, he get to go back to Earth.

Satisfied with the show for S1. I progressed to S2. Having pretty high expectations with the show. S2 adds a few more characters, making the show more lovable, but with the conflict settles down last season, S2 felt like as if they ran out of ideas, it’s pretty much “Fun” triangle wars and massive fanservice. The ending felt very underwhelming, but I still wished for a S3. It got announced, but they left me hanging for 3 years and after it got confirmed, was disappointed with the one-minus ep count.

S3 then kicked off. With more characters added into the mix, things does get a little more fun and exciting. The storyline is definitely better than S2 but if you think that 3 years of waiting did the work, I think the 3 years wait was not worth it. Even with 3 years of time to work on the storyline, it can never excel better than S1. The story does get interesting at the last few eps, but things did not go well as I expected. Character developments have always been their weakness for the 3 seasons. Honestly, even with their underwhelming 3 season straight performance, I still wished for an S4. Anime hardly get such pleasant moments, which is why I treasure this show. The story might have some slight harem sense, but it doesn’t degrade the show.

Animations all handled by Seven Arcs for all seasons. They gradually improve the techniques after each season. Colors are vivid, battle scenes are excellently animated, every scene are very sharp and crisp.

Music is one of their strong points. All OPs are sung by Mizuki Nana and EDs by Horie Yui. If you ask me, honestly, I enjoyed the ED more than the OPs. BGMs did their jobs.

VAs is a pretty long list, but a nice one.  Miyano Mamoru, Takahashi Mikako, Mizuki Nana, Horie Yui, Taketatsu Ayana, Koyasu Takehito, Ono Yuki, Seto Asami, Hikasa Yoko, Asumi Kana, Matsuki Miyu, Koshimizu Ami, Kakihara Tatsuya, Wakamoto Norio, Ono Daisuke, Hanazawa Kana, Kotobuki Minako, Tange Sakura, Sakurai Takehiro, Yuki Aoi, Mizushima Takahiro, Uchida Maaya, Kitamura Eri, Toriumi Kousuke, Orikasa Ai, Orikasa Fumiko, Ogura Yui, Uesaka Sumire. The most surprising addition into the cast list is definitely Wakamoto Norio. The rest did their job well, and they did not overtip the balance between the male and females. Some VAs get 2 roles.

Score: S1 | S2 | S3

Story: 8/10 | 7/10 | 7.5/10

Art: 8/10 | 8.5/10 | 9/10

Music: 8/10 | 8/10 | 8.5/10

VAs: 8/10 | 8.5/10 | 9/10

Highly recommended, but not for the main audience. You can treat this as a lengthy time waster. Fingers crossed for S4.
