Time to put my engineering skills into work.
The anime ran for 49 eps with a 4 OVA recap. Then it goes on with a 3eps OVA, or you can choose to watch the movie instead or maybe just watch both. I watched everything and also read the Frozen Teardrop novel, to find closure in this series. I watched the remastered version so its 1080p.
The anime as always like other Gundam series, take their time at the beginning, since they have 49 eps to make use of. What makes this show unique is they don’t really concentrate a lot on the mecha side and they went more into the drama and political aspect in the theme, which is an eye-opener for me. Gundam 00 has went a lot into the political side, but Wing definitely has more drama. Heero and Relena’s romance is definitely one of the most rocky one I have ever seen in an anime. Heero had to bring himself to kill her multiple times and surprisingly, he couldn’t do it. I love this rocky romance, it keeps the show moving and made me crave for more. To be honest, it’s really obvious that they really didn’t concentrate much into the mecha aspect, it feels slightly like 00. Ending felt very abrupt, chaaracter developments mainly concentrates on Trowa, Heero and Relena, the rest felt like… it’s missing something.
Gundam Wing Endless Waltz
What really surprises me, is that they totally redesigned the Gundams and made it look like the original series uses them too. Honestly, this version of the Gundams are the most eye-pleasing and looked extremely badass, especially Deathscythe. The story moves on and it escalates a lot. I love it. The Gundam’s performance definitely gotten an upgrade. The Relena X Heero gets another rocky adventure. Ending gave me some kind of closure. Character development is slightly ok.
Gundam Wing Frozen Teardrop
There is an OVA adaptation for one of the chapters and they picked the correct chapter, it’s the turning point of the novel and I love it. I read the entire novel and it gives a perfect closure for the series. Finally a happy ending, it feels heavy tho, maybe because of the wonderful closure of the series.
The animations done by as usual, Sunrise. I have to admit, for a 1995 work, it feel pretty decent. 1080p might have made a difference. The colors are so on-point, combat scenes are damn smooth. Character design might be one of the most pleasant looking ones back in 1995, especially Relena’s. Endless Waltz OVA came a year later, the quality went up a notch and there is slight revision in the character designs. The movie came a year after the OVA and it feels the same, but there is quite a bit of additional footage. Worth watching. The Frozen Teardrop illustrations felt so eye-pleasing, it looks and feels more pleasant than the anime. I love them all.
Music is a hit or miss. All the OPs by Two-Mix felt pretty ok. The ED felt out-of-place, but maybe because the really random ED animations being too upbeat for a serious show. The BGMs were pretty solid.
VAs is a pretty nice list. Midorikawa Hikaru, Yajima Akiko, Seki Toshihiko, Nakahara Shigeru, Orikasa Ai, Ishino Ryuuzou, Koyasu Takehito, Touma Yumi, Yamauchi Sayuri, Sakuma Rei, Okiayu Ryotaro, Yokohama Chisa, Horikawa Ryo, Matsui Naoko. It’s a pretty nice list. Relena wins again.
Yeah, I love Relena with a deep passion.
And also, my thoughts on Relena’s total pacifism.
It can never work. To put this simply, there will always be that one twat that goes into politics and start waging wars like other humans as his pawns.
