When your fantasy love comedy doesn’t happen to you: Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.

I watched everything including the latest OVA. Origin LN, 11 volumes and counting. The anime gave us 2 seasons of 13 eps and 2 OVAs. Watari Wataru has a pretty unique naming sense for the characters in this series, their names either rhymes or have the same first few syllables, which is ok, but weird.

This show received a lot of hype, but I personally don’t enjoy it. Most of the time, I can see myself in Hachiman’s shoes, it’s a unpleasant feeling. Because of my past, I can pretty much predict how the storyline will progress and somewhat spoiled the experience. As for the main audience, which most of them did have a painful past like mine, will find this show an eyeopener since they never experience such sentiments before. First season was hell for me to watch, but season 2 was a tad bit better, even though some moments amplified the unpleasant past feeling. But at least finally, we get more character developments and more characters that are more lovable and less irritating. Ending was a bit of a disappointment due to its cliffhanger nature and ending just nice where the LN also ended. Third season seems extremely unlikely, even if they plan to do so, it will take at least half a decade. Their OVAs did not really serve as fanservice, but they did bring some serious moments with some fanservice in the inside. This show’s isolated nature reduced the romance feeling of the show making the title somewhat feels rather misleading. I don’t ship anyone to anyone in this show, because I think Hachiman is better off being isolated to himself, as both girls are not the best choices for any romance.

Animations done by Brain’s Base for the first and feel for the second. Brain’s Base made the show looked pretty generic on the outside when the inside was the key part of the show. feel saved the second season with the even more suiting character design and the extremely fluid frames. Color rendering was excellent and their usage of bloom is pretty sweet. I love it.

Music is a mixed bag. Even though I personally love Yanagi Nagi, but I couldn’t really catch both her OPs and the EDs were pretty… bland.

VAs is a pretty cool list. Eguchi Takuya, Hayami Saori, Toyama Nao, Komatsu Mikako, Inoue Marina, Koshimizu Ami, Shiraishi Minoru, Kotobuki Minako, Yuzuki Ryoka, Yuki Aoi, Hiyama Nobuyuki, Nakahara Mai, Murase Ayumu, Morohoshi Sumire, Asakura Azumi, Sakura Ayane, Tomatsu Haruka, Fujita Saki, Hino Satoshi, Inoue Kikuko, Ohara Sayaka. All of them sound… normal, nothing much to praise or complain about.

Score: S1, OVA1 | S2, OVA2

Story: 7/10 | 8/10

Art: 8/10 | 8.5/10

Music: 8/10 | 8/10

VAs: 8/10 | 8.5/10

Highly recommended for people who have a good life in school and never really cared for the people who chose to isolate themselves. It can sometimes teach you some life lessons.
