Darkness Redefined: Gokukoku no Brynhildr

Good morning! I managed to finish 2 animes this week. The other one is coming after this.

Originated from a manga, still ongoing, 14volumes as of right now. The creator is the one who made Elfen Lied so I was having pretty high hopes on this one. Anime lasted for 13 eps with 1 OVA. They didnt bring back the director who directed Elfen Lied, so was a bit disappointed. Watched the BD so its all uncensored, but it wasnt really THAT raw.

The story is pretty dark, but was not as shocking, brainwashing as Elfen Lied. The gore and psychological horror is VERY controlled, it felt like the censorship is kicking in. Its pretty lighthearted for a psychological horror and they tried to combine harem into this one and its backfiring. The story does shows the struggle, hardship and suffering, but its not really working well, its not strong enough. It does have its plot twists and surprising its pretty nice. The ending was very underwhelming and felt forced and rushed. Overall was pretty disappointed with this one. The OVA was pretty much a fanservice, as usual.

Animations done by Arms, compared to Elfen Lied, its definitely better. The gore is weaker now. Character designs were well done.

Music is a plus. The OPs were excellent, ED was ok. BGMs does makes the atmosphere felt pretty real. Tokisawa Nao, you are a excellent man.

I never heard such a nice instrumental OP since like… Akatsuki no Yona.

Absolutely surprising when it came out. Such heavy metal never been so nice since WataMote OP.

VAs is list of pretty nice cast. Taneda Risa, Osaka Ryota, Suzaki Aya, M.A.O, Tadokoro Azusa, Uchiyama Yumi, Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Numakura Manami, Yahagi Sayuri, Noto Mamiko, Sato Rina, Honda Mariko. All of them fitted their roles well. Noto Mamiko was the most shocking tho.

Best gurl?

Story: 7.5/10

Art: 8/10

Music: 9/10

VAs: 9/10

Recommended? Up to you. If you want raw gore and more psychological mindfucks you are better off with the manga, the anime is too underwhelming, thanks to the director.

Next one coming up.
