Good evening! Actually hit this milestone like last week, but didnt have much time and also was a bit behind with the planning part, so I pushed it till now. As always, better late than never.
This one actually gave me the idea after watching AnoHana, yeah prep ye tissues and get ready for a cry of your life.
As usual, no rankings, since I suck at those. The scores are pretty much my own impression, cannot guarantee that you will feel the same, so didnt rank them.
First thing that comes to my mind, and also the most deepest I ever watched so far, I finally understood this show after 3 rewatches, and teared up on all of them. The BD remastered version proves how much dedication KyoAni put into such a wonderful show. Nicely done character designs and pretty awesome quality for a 2005 show. The ending leaves a very heavy impression because it does not have any sort of recovery.
Feels: 7.5/10 (Really needs a lot of concentration to understand this show, its has a pretty deep meaning to it.)
9. Kanon (KyoAni ver)
Uguu~ This show is both fun to watch and heavy at the same time. Its mostly a roller coaster ride because of its character arcs layout. But each ride gets harsher after each arc, its progressive until finally, Ayu comes in and bam, heavy then the ending made everything feels a lot better. Nice recover, now the feels is pretty numb, but its still nice. Awesome character designs, awesome quality. Dont bother try the Toei ver, it kills everything.
8. Clannad ~After Story~
Specifically After Story, but you still have to watch Clannad to watch this so… well. Clannad is just a prelude of a massive tissue tornado incoming. After Story emphasizes on beyond the school life and into adulthood of our lovely couple. It was nice for the first half, happy and hilarious things keeps coming until the second half comes and everything starts falling apart in front of your eyes. Tragedy after tragedy, death after death. The most heavy was when Ushio dies then he wished for a miracle and he did it. The ending’s recovery was pretty poor as the heavy feels cannot be washed away, even with a happily ever after ending. Kinda rushed too. Maybe Im just happy for them until I teared up. But still one of the finest tears inducing show of modern anime.
7. Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo
One of the most underperformed show of all time. This show would have rocked if a second season was made. The show is like Clannad too, first half happiness and slice-of-life, but when the 2nd OP makes the entrance, an earthquake struck this show and everything is crumbling, the ending literally drove me to tears so badly, I ran out of tissues before I even know it. And it comes twice. Cute characters, nice quality, 24eps is pretty just nice, such a pity they didnt animate this till the end, because the light novel ending was touching.
6. Kyoukai no Kanata
This one is pretty ok, for the anime, but the movie is the main catalyst. The anime ending was a bit heavy for me. Kako-hen’s ending was so close to making me tear, because of Mirai losing her memories, this love story is now back to the beginning. Mirai-hen does bring everything back together, but then it crumbles again slowly at the climax, but recovered at the ending. The feels pretty much got nullified with Mirai-hen’s ending. Well, better than leaving me hanging with a serious ending that will take forever for me to get over with. Pretty awesome characters and damn legit combat scenes and quality.
5. Tamako Love Story
Tamako Market before this is recommended. This movie is a contrast of what the anime tried to bring. The serious nature of this movie and the confession at the end, its just too much for me to handle. I love this series. Well done. The quality is as usual a KyoAni signature.
4. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai
Recently finished and reviewed. The unique point about this show is that you dont cry over the tragedy, you cry over they long lost friendship just gotten back together. You cry with meaning, instead of crying over what happens in the show. The movie will make you cry again, because of their deep bond of friendship they had, and also letting go of the past to face the future. This show is going to be one of my long time favourites. Awesome character designs, lovely quality, deep meaning in the feels. Even the ED is touching!
Will never forget about this song ever.
3. Little Busters!
One of the longest show I ever watched, but also the most wasted, especially season 2. Even all of those flaws, this show still was a good one. The ending feels comes in 2 waves, first from Refrain, then EX, but EX has a lot of feels coming, because all the character arcs were extremely heavy. Very cute character designs, quality is subpar compared to its competitors. Music does swings the mood, suiting the ambience and enviroment of the anime.
Clamp never fails at this. The show is very lighthearted, but when the seriousness comes, it comes straight at you, without warning, so it totally caught me off my guard. It escalates so fast but I still didnt got lost and pulled a few pieces of tissue. Lovely character design, abstract-ish backgrounds and color palettes made the show a pleasant experience.
Need to write a review of this soon.
1. Nagi no Asukara
One of the most emotionally shaking show of all time. Maybe because I can relate this show with my previous experience. The feels lasted for the entire show for me, just by looking at Kaname. The happy ending didnt wash away the depression, and forbids me from rewatching this. I seriously cannot rewatch this, its too much for me. Awesome character design, over the roof animation quality, backgrounds and color palettes. This show could be the perfect package.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica (the anime and movie 3 only)
Papa no Iu Koto Kikinasai (OVA2 is enough already)
Sora no Otoshimono (movie 2 only)
Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru (I was this close to put this one up on the rankings, I actually cried at this one also.)
Golden Time (Also close enough to be in the rankings, but I think the ending could have been better, judging from the LN)
Toradora (Pretty close too, but still not enough, even for the LN.)
Onegai series (Both had their own feely endings, but they didnt really touch my heart as deep.)
Grisaia series (Pretty well done even after slightly tuned from the VN, but as usual, the VN killed me)
No ranking whatsoever as usual. All of them has their own unique features and ways to bring the sadness to everyone. All of them are highly recommended to watch, even for the honorable mentions.
Hopefully this posts does give you a slight eye opener and makes you wanna buy more tissue to do a rewatch/marathon.
