This is a KyoAni original, was thinking twice about watching it, but didnt regret after that. Love it a lot. One of the reasons why it drew me in is the K-on feel art, kinda act like a KyoAni’s signature.
Storyline is pretty awesome, funny, childish. Well its a slice of life so i didnt expect much from the show, but KyoAni managed to bring it to its full potential. 12eps felt short as usual but it managed to bring enough content to entertain me. Then the movie came, omg, it turned from a more comedy slice of life to a very serious note, about love, about Tamako and Mochizo. The movie felt very serious, never seen such things in awhile so it kinda knocked me off guard, but the advantage is, when the tiny bits of comedies starts to appear, you laugh harder as usual due to its serious note. Well, the movie overall was pretty well done with an answer of the confession as an abrupt ending, awesome. Overall this series is like yin and yang, while the series is the yang and the movie is the yin, light and darkness blend into one is a well done production overall.
Art is by BABUM, KyoAni, kinda obvious just by looking at it, the K-on feel is back maybe because the director also directed the entire K-on series. Character design is cute as it is, and background, colors are all so vivid. I would say this is 2x better than K-on while Amagi is 1.5x better than this while Hibike is 3x better than this, KyoAni just keeps improving on its animation standards which is good. Unlike Xebec, Madhouse and Sunrise, which have unstable levels of standards in their animations.
Music is pretty decent, OP was cheerful and bubbly while ED is pretty solid. BGMs are nice as for the movie, the BGMs are serious to accommodate the seriousness of the film.
VAs are pretty newbie-oriented. Suzaki Aya, Nagatsuma Juri, Tamaru Atsushi and Kaneko Yuki are the new birds in the list, while the senpais includes Hidaka Rina, Hikasa Yoko, Fujiwara Keiji, Yukino Satsuki, Ono Daisuke, Shimono Hiro. I would say this show is Suzaki Aya’s major debut, after that her roles starts to skyrocket, casting roles in Ro-Kyu-Bu SS, Henneko, Girlfriend Beta, Gokukoku no Brynhildr, Rokujouma no Shinryakusha, Kancolle, etc etc. All the newbies did a decent job with their voice acting, while the senpais unsurprisingly did their job well also, overall the experience is pretty good.
Story: 8.5/10 (anime), 9/10 (movie)
Highly recommend this.
Another one coming again. Trying to pay off my “debts” for the past few weeks.
