Out of this world: Hyperdimension Neptunia: The Animation

Omg, i love this a lot, this franchise is such a success.

Its from a game, and im playing it right now. Cant wait for Re:birth 2 in May and Re:birth 3 in Fall. The anime runs for 12eps and an OVA. So its pretty short, but its a good ride with a pretty proper ending. All character designs are by Tsunako, who also did illustration from Date A Live, thats why i can feel the resemblance from the art style.

Storyline is all original, but it includes all characters spanning from the first to Victory II. The ride was great, the jokes are pretty up there but they tend to “recycle” them a lot, making it starting to feel bland, But overall its legitly good, I love it. The characters are all unique. Like how a playful Neptune can become so serious when transformed into Purple Heart, or maybe how a gentle Plutia can be a sadist once tranformed into Iris Heart… Haha, I love Plutia a lot.

Art by David Production, most notable work from them are Inu x Boku SS. They transferred the character design from the game to the anime which is awesome. Colors are vivid and crisp, 1080p feels pretty awesome. They did a decent job with the combat scenes, but could be better. Transformation sequences are pretty awesome. The animation lacked a bit of 3DCG so the entire thing is somewhat like handdrawn. Such a move cannot bring out the full potential of the designs and the background. Thats one thing they need to improve.

Music is a long list. If you talking about just the anime, its pretty short, but for the WHOLE franchise, it costs 2GB plus, including all character songs from all the characters. OP was ok, since its nao who sang it, the EDs is also pretty good. Afilia Saga is back yay~ The character songs are all pretty well done.

VAs is a huge list of epic proportions. A lot of important casts. Notable ones are Tanaka Rie, Horie Yui, Ogura Yui, Ishihara Kaori, Imai Asami, Sato Rina, Asumin Kana, KitaEri, Ueda Kana, Sakai Kanako, HanaKana, Yuki Aoi, Kanai Mika, Mizuhashi Kaori, Kuwatani Natsuko, Ito Kanae, Endo Aya, Takahashi Chiaki, Kobayashi Yuu. OMG GOOD LIST FROM HEAVEN, hard to find such a cast list these days. Horie Yui seems awkward voicing her role tbh, her voice is a bit not suitable imo. Tanaka Rie, HanaKana both gave me an eye opener after i heard them… The voices tho, never heard before… Sakai Kanako did an awesome job voicing Compa, I love her voice a lot, gives off a unique cuteness that no one else can do.

Besto gurl is a tie between Purple Heart and Iris Heart/Plutia. Neptune too irritating for me. Compa is a honorable mention.

Story: 8/10

Art: 9/10

VAs: 9.5/10

Music: 8.5/10

game review? maybe… but might be lazy as the game is pretty lengthy itself.

More reviews? Lemme check my completed list and look for inspiration.

  1. To me Neptunia TV is one of, if not the best media adaptations of a video game series there is. The show essentially captured everything that makes the franchise awesome.

I’m not a fan of JP Neptune’s voice either. I’m good with EN Neptune.
    Compa is totes adorbs.

My best CPU will always be Vert and the best Candidate Nepgear.

  2. I told myself that I would play the game (which I am slowly doing so now) before I watched the anime, considering that FUNimation is releasing a dub of the anime this summer. I don’t know if I’m going to complete it, as it’s really a long game and I’m not a gamer, but I will check out the anime for sure! You must really like the anime!
